Position Summary

This role offers three levels (Foreman, Journeyman, Apprentice) and will involve working on commercial construction and service projects: new installations, repairs, replacements of plumbing systems in settings such as healthcare, schools, restaurants and offices. hydromechanicalohio.com
You will work in the field (job sites) with a strong emphasis on safety, quality workmanship, communication and effective collaboration with project teams.

Key Responsibilities

Foreman (Lead role):

  • Lead plumbing crews on commercial job sites: plan daily tasks, assign work, monitor progress and quality.
  • Coordinate with Project Manager, other trades, and subcontractors to ensure schedule and project requirements are met.
  • Provide hands-on plumbing expertise: pipe installation, fitting, testing, commissioning.
  • Enforce safety protocols and company standards; ensure the job site is clean and organized.
  • Mentor and train Journeymen and Apprentices; evaluate performance.
  • Read blueprints, drawings, and specifications; ensure compliance and troubleshoot issues.
  • Report job site conditions, material needs, delays, and cost/time impacts to management.

Journeyman (Skilled trades role):

  • Install, repair and maintain commercial plumbing systems (pipes, valves, fixtures, drains, water heaters, etc.).
  • Interpret drawings, schematics and material take-offs; execute installation per specifications.
  • Perform leak detection, system testing and adjustments.
  • Assist the Foreman in coordinating work, maintaining quality and supporting apprentices.
  • Ensure compliance with code, safety and project standards; maintain tools and equipment.

Apprentice (Entry/training role):

  • Assist Journeymen and Foremen with plumbing installations and repairs on commercial sites.
  • Learn blueprint reading, pipe layout, proper use of tools and safety practices.
  • Carry materials, maintain work area, clean up job site.
  • Participate in on-the-job and classroom training toward journeyman credentials.

Qualifications

Foreman:

  • Minimum of 5 + years commercial plumbing experience in construction environment.
  • Proven supervisory or crew-lead experience.
  • Strong blueprint reading and technical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to safety and high-quality workmanship.
  • Valid driver’s license required; comfortable traveling to jobs within Central Ohio.

Journeyman:

  • Journeyman plumbing license (or equivalent) preferred.
  • 3 + years commercial plumbing experience.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and install per specifications.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to work in team mode.

Apprentice:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Willingness to learn and grow in the plumbing trade.
  • Basic tool knowledge and physical stamina for field work.
  • Strong safety mindset and good attendance.

Preferred Attributes
